3rd Turkish Congress of Aesthetics is scheduled to be held on 23^rd – 25^th of May 2019, at METU Culture and Convention Center in Ankara, Turkey. The congress is organized by SANART Association of Aesthetics and Visual Culture, in cooperation with Ankara University Department of Philosophy, Middle East Technical University Departments of Philosophy, Architecture, Music and Fine Arts. We warmly welcome scholars and artists submit proposals for paper presentations, panels, and workshops, and share valuable experiences with scholars and students working in different fields of aesthetics.

SANART Turkish Congresses of Aesthetics aim to bring together scholars from Turkey and other countries, strengthen relationships and establish a strong network among them, create a lively and productive environment to discuss contemporary ideas in the field, and thus contribute to the development of the discipline.

You are invited  to submit abstracts of maximum 500 words to the 3rd Turkish Congress of Aesthetics by clicking on the “Registration” tab above. The language of the Congress is Turkish and English.  The proposed session titles are listed below, but the content of the congress will not be limited to these topics. Applications from all areas of aesthetics will be evaluated.

Benjamin Lennertz (Colgate University) will give a talk at Bogazici University on January 15 at 15:00 in JF507. The title and the abstract are below. All are welcome.

Title: Probabilism without (Substantive) Arguments

Abstract: Probabilism is a popular view about the rational requirements governing thoughts about what is likely and unlikely, which says that the strengths of such thoughts for a person should conform to the laws of probability. The formal epistemology literature contains several complex and controversial arguments in favor of Probabilism. In this paper I will neither advocate for nor challenge any particular such argument. Instead, I will show how, if we adopt a simple, alternative account of the nature of thoughts about what is likely, Probabilism requires no substantive argument to support it; it follows trivially from the nature of these attitudes and their contents. I suggest that this is a strong, though not decisive, reason against the picture of such thoughts that is standard in formal epistemology.

Uluslararası Mitoloji Sempozyumu’nu duyurmaktan gurur duyar.

İnsani bilimlerin çeşitli branşlarından genç akademisyenler olarak mitlerin ve mitik sistemlerin her bir disiplin için son derece özgün bir role sahip olduğu konusunda hemfikiriz. Bu yüzden, özel olarak “mit ve mitoloji” temasına odaklanan dünya çapında bir bilgi şöleni organize ederek; felsefe, sosyoloji, antropoloji, edebiyat, psikoloji, sanat tarihi ve güzel sanatlar gibi mitolojiyle doğrudan ilişkilendirilebilecek tüm alanlardan akademisyenleri ve öğrencileri etkinliğimize davet etmeye karar verdik.
